How to level the tiles

When installing tiles in a home or commercial space, we want to avoid uneven edges between adjacent tiles. A tile leveling system helps us achieve a smooth, even finish.

There are several types of tile leveling systems, including wedges, bell-shaped caps and threaded caps. Ask the tile manufacturer which system is suitable for your tiles, as the choice depends on the material and tile size. Whichever system you use, follow these steps:

Applying tile adhesive to the surface
1. Apply tile adhesive to the floor or wall. Use the back-buttering technique when the tile format requires it.
Placing spacers between the tiles
2. Place spacers between the tiles to maintain even joints.
Placing leveling clips near the corners of a tile
3. Place the leveling clips approximately 5 cm from each corner of the tile.
Inserting wedges into the leveling clips
4. Insert the wedges into the clips and tighten them with leveling pliers.
Removing the leveling clips after the adhesive has set
5. Once the adhesive has set for the recommended time, remove the leveling clips by tapping them in the direction of the joint.
Cleaning the tiles and grouting the joints
6. Clean off any excess material and grout the joints.

Tile leveling systems add to the installation cost, but they help create even walls and floors without uneven tile edges.
